Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI, Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) has decided to provide insurance for a loan made to the state-owned telecom company JSC "Uzbektelecom" (Uzbektelecom) in the Republic of Uzbekistan (Uzbekistan).

This project will provide the funds for Uzbektelecom to purchase telecommunications equipment manufactured by NEC Corporation (NEC), Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ), NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Communications), etc. through Toyota Tsusho Corporation (Toyota Tsusho), with the aim to establish the core telecommunications system in Uzbekistan. The loan will be extended in the form of co-financing by MUFG Bank, Ltd. (MUFG) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and NEXI will provide insurance for the portion offered by MUFG.

This is the third project for NEXI to provide insurance to help create an advanced telecommunications environment in Uzbekistan, following ones to finance the development of a digital terrestrial TV network1 in 2015 and the export of a nationwide data communication system2 in 2019. This project will support digital transformation driven by the Uzbekistan government through contribution to building a fast and high-capacity telecommunications infrastructure. NEXI expects the project to further strengthen ties between Japan and Uzbekistan and give a boost to the 30th year of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2022.

As an official export credit agency in Japan, NEXI will continue to actively support exports by Japanese companies.
