Türkiye / Loan Insurance for Türk Eximbank with respect to Anadolu Isuzu’s Acquisition of SamAuto
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI; Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) has decided to provide insurance for a loan extended by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, BBVA Tokyo Branch, and Deutsche Bank AG Tokyo Branch to Türk Eximbank, the export credit agency in Türkiye.
The loan is to support, through Türk Eximbank, ANADOLU ISUZU OTOMOTİV SANAYİ VE TİCARET A.Ş. (“Anadolu Isuzu”) raising funds to acquire JV Samarkand Automobile Factory JV LLC (“SamAuto”).
Anadolu Isuzu is a joint venture between a Turkiye’s conglomerate Anadolu Group, Isuzu Motors Limited (“Isuzu”), and ITOCHU Corporation (“Itochu”) and plays a central operational and managerial role within the Isuzu-branded commercial vehicle ecosystem in the region. Anadolu Isuzu produces and sells Isuzu-branded commercial vehicles (trucks and buses etc) under a licensing agreement with Isuzu. SamAuto is a state-owned automotive manufacturer in Uzbekistan who also manufactures and sells Isuzu-branded commercial vehicles and is partially owned by Isuzu and Itochu.
Under this transaction, Anadolu Isuzu acquired the shares in SamAuto that were owned by the Government of Uzbekistan representing a majority shareholding. By providing financing to this acquisition through Türk Eximbank, NEXI aims to support Isuzu’s further global expansion together with Anadolu Isuzu as a key regional partner and contribute to strengthening the international competitiveness of Japan’s key automotive industry.
Additionally, this transaction, through collaboration in third country with Turkish companies, will contribute to the implementation of the Government of Uzbekistan’s policy to privatize state-owned enterprises.
NEXI will continue to actively support Japanese companies in expanding their overseas business as Japanese financial institution to implement national policies.
