NEXI signs Reinsurance Agreement with ECIC
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI; Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) has concluded a reinsurance agreement (this Agreement) with Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa SOC Ltd (ECIC), South Africa’s export credit agency (ECA). The Agreement was unveiled at the MOU Signing Ceremony held at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) dated August 21, 2025, in the presence of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
This is NEXI's first reinsurance agreement with an African Export Credit Agency, and under this agreement, NEXI will reinsure ECIC’s export credit insurance for Japanese companies based in South Africa when they export to third countries including African countries.
South Africa has the largest number of Japanese-affiliated companies in Africa and serves as a hub for exports to other African countries. Promoting intra-African trade also contributes to the advancement of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
ECIC and NEXI will actively support the exports business expansion of Japanese-affiliated companies in South Africa, as well as support third countries, including those in Africa.
NEXI will continue supporting Japanese companies’ overseas businesses through cooperation with foreign export credit agencies.
