Signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation among Credendo, Komatsu and NEXI
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI, Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Credendo, the export credit agency of the Kingdom of Belgium (Belgium), and Komatsu Ltd. (Komatsu) to promote the export of mining equipment to Africa by Komatsu.
Under this MOU, the parties express their intention to engage in constructive discussions as to potential support from Credendo and NEXI for Komatsu’s extension of retail financing to mining contractors operating in Africa through its Belgian subsidiary, Komatsu Finance Europe. Such support is expected to be provided through a reinsurance arrangement.
Founded in 1921, Komatsu is a leading Japanese machinery manufacturer and one of Japan’s largest exporters, with overseas sales accounting for over 90% of its total revenue. In Africa, where abundant mineral resources have led to active mining development, demand for mining equipment continues to grow. Komatsu has designated the African market as a region of utmost strategic importance and aims to expand its regional business under its mid-term management plan.
Given Japan’s efforts being made jointly by the public and private sectors to promote business in Africa, such as hosting the Nineth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, 2025, this MOU is intended to support Komatsu’s further business expansion in Africa through collaboration with Credendo. It is also expected to contribute to the region’s economic growth by supporting local mining contractors.
NEXI will continue to actively support the overseas business development of Japanese companies, as well as their exports, investments and lending in African countries, through cooperation with foreign export credit agencies and by providing our trade insurance programs.
