Amendment of the MOU with ICIEC, The Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI, Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) has signed an amended Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with The Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC, CEO: Dr. Khalid Khalafalla). The signing ceremony took place on August 18th between Dr. Khalid Khalafalla, CEO of ICIEC and Mr. Atsuo Kuroda, Chairman and CEO of NEXI in Tokyo, Japan.

This signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), which is scheduled to take place from August 20th to 22nd.

In conjunction with the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 7), held in August 2019, NEXI and ICIEC signed a MOU recognizing the strong demand for infrastructure development across the African region and the business opportunities for Japanese companies therein. The MOU aimed to establish a collaborative framework to support project formulation in the region.

Since the signing of a MOU in 2019, NEXI and ICIEC have continued to strengthen our collaboration through various initiatives, including the signing of a MOU to establish a reinsurance framework, the launch of a Japan Desk to serve as a consultation point for Japanese companies, and coordinated support for Gas Power Plant Construction Project in Turkmenistan. This amended MOU aims to further strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and expand areas of cooperation, including blended finance.

NEXI, as a governmental financial institution of Japan, will continue to actively support projects that contribute to strengthening bilateral and multilateral economic partnerships by deepening collaboration with international financial institutions and government-affiliated financial agencies of other countries.
