NEXI signs MOU with JICA
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance
Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI; Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for complementing each other, facilitating further cooperation, and advancing the mobilization of private finance with collective impact as well as “offer-type” cooperation.
Atsuo Kuroda, Chairman and CEO of NEXI, and Akihiko Tanaka, President of JICA, have concluded the MOU on December 15, 2023, on the occasion of the ASEAN-Japan Economic Co-Creation Forum held on December 16.
This MOU aims to provide and exchange information between NEXI and JICA to promote the use of private funds and “offer-type” cooperation (including the structuring of the blended finance scheme) that have a development impact and to discuss the collaboration regarding various projects NEXI or JICA will implement or plan. With Official Development Assistance (ODA) and NEXI's insurance, which covers risks for private sector investments, it is expected to mobilize private capitals in high-risk developing regions and to contribute to resolving economic and social issues.
The Development Cooperation Charter approved by the Cabinet in June of this year specifically states that it is important to effectively combine both ODA and Other Official Flows (OOF), and to facilitate development cooperation with private funds through the collaboration among ODA funds and OOF institutions such as NEXI. As such, this initiative is in line with the Japanese government's policy.
