NEXI signs MOU with PT PLN (Persero)

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI, Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) has concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) concerning cooperation in the field of export credit guarantee and insurance, with PT PLN (Persero) (PLN), the state-owned electricity company in the Republic of Indonesia (Indonesia).

The signing was conducted electronically between Hidenobu Teramura, Senior Managing Executive Officer, Member of Board of NEXI, and Sinthya Roesly, Director of Finance and Risk Management of PLN, at the Asia Green Growth Partnership Ministerial Meeting (AGGPM) Public-Private Forum held on April 25, 2022, attended by Kenichi Hosoda, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

The MOU, which is in line with NEXI’s LEAD Initiative, mainly aims to establish a framework for dialogue between NEXI and PLN, to strengthen cooperation in Indonesia’s power sector and to support Indonesia’s initiatives for decarbonization. By its conclusion, we intend to promote the efforts in the decarbonization in Indonesia’s electricity sector and to create business opportunities for Japanese companies in Indonesia, through enhancing the relationship between NEXI and PLN.

Furthermore, the MOU aligns with the aim of the Asia Energy Transition Initiative (AETI) announced by the Japanese government, given that it will contribute to providing support for Indonesia’s efforts in achieving realistic energy transitions.

NEXI continues to actively support Japanese companies to expand their business overseas by deepening collaboration with other governmental companies.

<Scope of Cooperation under the MOU>

  1. 1. Establishing a framework for development of cooperative efforts between NEXI and PLN, mainly  focusing on following topics
     ➢ Exchanging views on the electricity market in Indonesia (including decarbonization plan)
     ➢ Exchanging views on potential projects in which two parties may collaborate
     ➢ Exchanging information necessary for underwriting and monitoring of projects
  2. 2. Introducing technologies developed by Japanese companies
  3. 3. Providing financial support for PLN in the areas related to the achievement of realistic energy  transitions in Indonesia
