MOU on Cooperation between EXIM Thailand and NEXI

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI; Chairman and CEO: Atsuo Kuroda) and Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand), the official export credit agency of the Kingdom of Thailand (hereinafter Thailand) has concluded a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to create a general framework for co-operation in the reinsurance business.

The MOU was signed by Atsuo Kuroda, Chairman and CEO of NEXI, and Pisit Serewiwattana, President of Thai EXIM on February 11, 2020, in Bangkok, Thailand. The signing ceremony was attended by Kazuya Nashida; Japan’s Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Piriya Khempon, Director of EXIM Thailand. Following the ceremony, NEXI and Thai EXIM held a joint seminar to introduce the business support scheme through providing reinsurance services. Many Japanese and Thai companies participated in it, and Thai government officials provided explanation on business opportunities in the CLMV countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) where the most effective utilization of the scheme is expected, as well as business advantages and competitiveness in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC).

The goal of the MOU is to effectively support exports from Thailand-based Japanese companies to the third countries, and their investing and financing activities in new businesses launched in such countries under partnership with Thai companies, by establishing a new framework to further promote the utilization of the reinsurance scheme between NEXI and EXIM Thailand, making use of the strengths of the both parties.

As a result of the maturing of Thai economy, amount of exports from Thai-based Japanese companies and investment projects led by Thai companies in Asia and other countries have been increasing with the expectation of further expansion in the future. The MOU is expected to contribute to promoting such exports and investment and financing for joint development projects carried out by companies from both Japan and Thailand, which have developed the long-term friendly relationship, and also to enhancing economic progress of relevant countries.

Promoting collaboration between NEXI and EXIM Thailand will also make for the realization of Japanese government’s “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy” aiming to bring stability and prosperity for the international community.

NEXI will continue to actively support Japanese companies’ overseas operations and economic progress of relevant countries by deepening cooperation with various export credit agencies throughout the world.
