Conclusion of MOUs on Business Cooperation with 13 Financial Institutions

June 10, 2019

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI, Chairman and CEO: Kazuhiko Bando) signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) on business cooperation with 13 financial institutions on June 7, 2019, aiming at developing environments to enable the institutions to use funds including for the infrastructure sector as well as project bonds. The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan, in the presence of the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko.

While smooth provision of funding is necessary to meet a strong global demand for infrastructure investment especially in emerging countries, the financing situation for foreign infrastructure projects is changing. In such circumstance, the MOUs were concluded based on NEXI’s recognition that it is important to attract new fund providers including institutional investors, in addition to traditional ones such as commercial banks.

NEXI will cooperate with private financial institutions to create a framework that enables new fund providers to make use of NEXI's loan insurance, with the conclusion of the MOUs.
