MOU on Corporation between the EIB and NEXI

October 23, 2018

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance

Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI : Chairman and CEO : Kazuhiko Bando) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation with the European Investment Bank (EIB), a government financial institution of the European Union (EU).

The ceremony was held on October 22, in the presence of Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hiroshige Seko, Minister for Foreign Affairs Taro Kono, and Vice-President of the European Commission Jyrki Katainen.

The aim of the MOU is to smoothly set up projects that will benefit Europe, Japan and third countries in social and economic settings, in a framework established by European and Japanese government financial institutions in order to work together to handle cases within and outside Europe in a range of each party’s mission.

As the EU and Japan signed an economic partnership agreement (EPA) in July this year, the bilateral economic relationship is expected to further develop. Cooperation between the EIB and NEXI will contribute to strengthening the tie between the EU and Japan not only in the trade sector but also in the investment sector, ultimately meeting expectations to policies and policy-based financial institutions of both governments.

NEXI will continue to actively support Japanese companies’ overseas business by fostering collaboration with governmental financial institutions in other countries and regions.
