Environment

Q.In cases where the project may have significant impacts on local residents around project site, should interviews with the affected people be conducted during the project site visit in environmental review?

A.

The project sponsor is responsible for environmental and social considerations for the project, and NEXI confirms such considerations. Response to the project stakeholders including the affected people should be made primarily by the project sponsor. NEXI is, through its environmental review, to check and confirm if the appropriate response is made.
As part of such confirmation procedure, when the people are significantly affected by the project because it involves large-scale involuntary resettlement or because indigenous people live near the project site, and when the stakeholders directly send their opinions to NEXI, we will conduct interviews if NEXI finds it necessary to do so on a case-by-case judgment.
