Environment

Q.If a significant adverse impact on the environment becomes known after initial classification, and this leads to a change in classification from Category B to A, will the project need to meet requirements for Category A projects under the Guidelines?

A.

In principle, when the category changes, the project sponsor will be asked through the Applicant or other parties to make appropriate environmental and social considerations so as to meet the requirements based on the new category. However, when such adverse impact occurs while the project is already in progress, NEXI considers it more important to take measures to resolve the problem that has emerged, rather than meeting the requirements of the new category. NEXI will therefore encourage the project sponsor, via the Applicant, to this end.
